IGP: Police looking into 125 MACC reports on officers’ misconduct

 

Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the police are looking into reports of misconduct by their officers submitted by the MACC.

He also said that the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department has already prepared a complete report on the issue.

“At the same time, police are also examining reports which we were said to not have informed the MACC about, for appropriate action to be taken against the involved parties.

“I assure you that the police have never compromised or been complacent.

“Instead, we always worked closely with every agency to ensure police’s integrity is always upheld,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

Yesterday, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said that more than 500 misconduct reports were gathering dust because some government agencies are not acting on them.

Based on statistics, of the 533 reports, the majority concerned the police (125). Coming in second was the Road Transport Department (RTD).

However, Azam said the large chunk of reports with regard to the police was understandable given the size of enforcement personnel.

On that note, Acryl Sani said the police would never take lightly issues pertaining to officers believed to have committed a disciplinary offence.

“We will always give our cooperation, not only to the MACC but also to EAIC (Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission) to inform them of appropriate actions that need to be taken.

“Perhaps there are some still being processed and are late, but there is never a report that we will put aside or not follow up on. We view any breach of order very seriously.

“We will always uphold integrity in whatever we do,” he stressed. - Mkini
