Is PH serious about Terengganu polls, says Amanah man

 

Amanah grassroots in Terengganu are said to be disillusioned by the lack of financial support the party has received from the central leadership.

PETALING JAYA: An Amanah member has questioned Pakatan Harapan’s commitment to putting up a fight against Perikatan Nasional in PAS-led Terengganu.

The party man, who declined to be named, said grassroot Amanah members in Terengganu were disillusioned by the lack of financial support received from the central leadership ahead of the coming state elections.

He said Amanah would be at the forefront of stopping PN’s “green wave” in their strongholds.

“We should at least be given sufficient support and finance to put up a reasonable fight in Terengganu, even if Kedah is the focus,” the source told FMT.

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had recently urged PH to focus its efforts on winning power in Kedah instead of Kelantan and Terengganu, where PN has a stronger influence.

In the previous general election, Amanah lost all its contests in three parliamentary and 11 state seats.

The source claimed that Terengganu Amanah received “negligible logistics and financial support” at the general election even though the party was seen as PH’s alternative to PAS .

“Is Terengganu Amanah going to face the same scenario again, being left to its own devices, which could lead to its slaughter by PAS at the coming state polls?” said the source.

The source said he believed the outcome of the Terengganu election was a “foregone conclusion”.

When contacted, Amanah communications director Khalid Samad denied a lack of support for Terengganu.

“Obviously, we don’t have the funds that some are asking for, so we are giving what we can. (This) doesn’t mean we aren’t providing any support.”

Khalid said if support is measured through funding, then the party would fall short but the commitment is there.

He cited his appointment, in February, as interim Kelantan Amanah chairman for six months. Amanah deputy chief Salahuddin Ayub and party president Mohamad Sabu have also been tasked to lead Terengganu and Kedah in the state polls, respectively.

The source claimed that Kelantan Amanah’s top leadership had yet to fill the vacuum left by Husam Musa following his resignation as the party’s vice-president and Kelantan PH chairman in 2020. - FMT
