The police have last night arrested a man suspected of misappropriating over RM24.8 million from the South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar).
Early investigations from the police revealed that the man, who was an assistant accountant, had made 194 transactions since 2016, transferring a total of RM24,800,189.73 from Kesedar accounts to the accounts of a company belonging to himself.
“Acting upon a report we received, on May 27 at about 12.21 midnight, a team of police officers from the Gua Musang Criminal Investigation Department arrested the suspect at his house in Bandar Gua Musang, Kelantan.
“The suspect (37 years old) was remanded for seven days starting today until June 2 for further investigation,” said Kelantan police chief Muhamad Zaki Harun in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which deals with employees who commit criminal breaches of trust in respect of property they have been entrusted with.
Zaki said they had first received a police report on the evening of May 26 regarding the disappearance of government funds handled by Kesedar between the period of December 2016 to May 2023. - Mkini
