Education Ministry did not sponsor the screening of the movie "Anwar: The Untold Story" for school students in Putrajaya recently.
According to Atiqah Syairah Shaharuddin, the political secretary to Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, she said the screening was sponsored by well-wishers and an NGO.
"(We wanted) to provide students access to (knowledge) on democratisation and an introduction to a leadership figure.
"(The movie) is a story about ups and downs, rising up and falling down, (all part of) the struggle against corruption," wrote Atiqah on her Facebook page.
Atiqah said she was among those who contributed to the screening meant for 50 Form 6 students of SMK Putrajaya Presint 5 (1) last week.
Fadhlina attended the screening as well.
According to FMT, the screening at GSC Alamanda on Tuesday night was considered an extracurricular activity and students could only participate with permission from their parents.
"There was no compulsion. No additional merits for the students. No increments for the civil servants involved. No support letters for the contributors," said Atiqah.
The school's letter to parents regarding the screening was shared by Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin who suggested that the screening was conducted due to poor ticket sales.
"This is viral now. The unsold story?" wrote Radzi.
The movie was produced by Zulkiflee Anwar Haque, better known as Zunar, and directed by Indonesian Viva Vesti.
Filmed prior to Anwar Ibrahim's ascend as prime minister, the movie tells the story of Anwar's time as deputy prime minister from 1993 until his incarceration in 1998. - Mkini
