PAS will remain loyal to Perikatan Nasional (PN) despite a "proposal" from DAP to work together in the administration.
The Islamist party's deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man told Utusan Malaysia that PAS would never go against the promise made to its supporters by leaving the opposition coalition after the 15th general election (GE15).
"(We) have no personal issues (with DAP) but we will stick to our promise made to the rakyat during election campaigning, and we will not lie to the voters (by leaving PN)," he told Utusan Malaysia.
According to him, PAS and PN in general, will continue playing the role of constructive opposition in Parliament.
Tuan Ibrahim was commenting on the proposal made by DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang that the coalition government should cooperate with PAS ahead of the upcoming state elections.
However, he urged PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to cease hostilities towards Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and show honesty first.
Anwar's recent meeting with PAS central leadership committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, also set tongues wagging.
During the meeting, the Tambun MP was reported to have said that he wished to rekindle ties with Hadi.
In addition, Anwar had also expressed his desire to fix Kelantan’s long-standing water problem but said the effort requires full cooperation from the state government.
Tuan Ibrahim also touched on the government's withdrawal of an appeal against a landmark ruling which allowed Jill Ireland - a non-Muslim Sarawakian - to use the word "Allah".
He urged Putrajaya to walk the talk on the reforms it always preaches, to uphold the status of Islam as the official religion.
"We insist the government should proceed with the appeal as the federal government's stance on the matter must be in line with that of the National Fatwa Council." - Mkini
