KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) has been providing continuous support to the state health department since power outages affected many districts yesterday.
State health director Datuk Dr Rose Nani said the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, which is one of the three main hospitals here, had also experienced an hourlong blackout.
"There was no electricity between 6pm and 7pm, but there was a backup using generator sets.
"The generator sets can function between five to six hours. SESB is also ready to send a portable gen set if needed. We received good support from SESB," she said when responding to a viral message of visitors having to walk up 10 floors to deliver food for warded patients.
Yesterday, SESB had clarified that technical damages to the equipment at one of its main intake substations caused several main power generators to trip, resulting in a loss of 200 megawatt (MW) in capacity in the Sabah grid system.
The electricity supply disruption, which also affected the Federal Territory of Labuan last night, was fully restored at 10.06pm. - NST
