PAS elections director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has assured that Perikatan Nasional's candidate for Selangor menteri besar will be a "true" Selangorian.
Speaking at the Selangor PAS Aidilfitri open house in Shah Alam last night, he said only a local or someone who has resided in the state a long time will understand local issues.
Sanusi (above), who is also the Kedah menteri besar, also made a possible reference to Selangor PAS’ veteran lawmaker Dr Halimah Ali.
"I never said that Sarawakians cannot (hold the position). Perhaps (the candidate) has lived in Selangor for a long time and can be considered.
"But it would be better if Selangor is led by a local who understands the flavour, lifestyle, and language," he said, according to Sinar Harian.
Halimah (photo above in middle with light coloured headscaft), 62, is an elected member of PAS' central committee. She was born in Marudi, Sarawak, but has long established herself in Selangor through her medical practice and activism.
She is a four-term state lawmaker having represented Selat Klang and later Seri Setia. In November 2022, she wrested the Kapar parliamentary seat from Pakatan Harapan.
Meanwhile, Selangor PAS chief Ahmad Yunus Hairi said several big political names have applied to be members.
However, he declined to confirm if the applicants were at the event.
Among those spotted at the event were former BN secretary-general Annuar Musa, former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar and former Perlis Umno chief Shahidan Kassim.
Noh has pledged to support PN in the Tanjong Karang area while Shahidan has frequently been spotted in the Semenyih vicinity. - Mkini
