Saravanan was not quizzed by MACC, says MIC source

It was recently alleged that M Saravanan and former officials at the human resources ministry were questioned by MACC two weeks ago.

PETALING JAYA: An MIC source has refuted a claim that its deputy president, M Saravanan, had been questioned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over alleged corruption in the recruitment of foreign workers.

“No such investigation took place. It’s nonsense,” said the source, adding that he had also spoken to Saravanan, the former human resources minister, about the matter.

FMT has attempted to reach Saravanan and MACC for clarification.

It was recently alleged on social media that Saravanan and his former officials at the ministry were quizzed by MACC two weeks ago.

Previously, the anti-graft agency had recorded statements from human resources minister V Sivakumar and detained three of his aides in connection with a corruption case. One of them has since been suspended.

It was previously reported that millions of ringgit might have been paid to officials to ensure that certain contractors retained their contracts to recruit foreign workers, which they had obtained under the previous government.

Investigators are currently focusing on establishing a money trail after a businessman arrested by MACC allegedly admitted that he had collected money from contractors for ministry officials.

The exact figure, however, is unknown. - FMT
