PETALING JAYA: US-based hyperscale data centre provider Vantage Data Centers will double down its commitment in Cyberjaya with an additional US$3 billion (RM13.32 billion) investment to build a second data centre campus, solidifying the city’s position as the top location for data centre investors.
The second campus called KUL2 is set to provide up to 256MW of capacity and sprawls over nearly 35 acres. It will contain 10 data centres across 2.75 million square feet, and is located adjacent to the group’s KUL1 campus. The first facility is set to open its doors in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The campus is set to provide connectivity to major cities in the region such as Singapore, Bangkok and Jakarta.
Vantage signed an agreement today with Cyberview, the tech hub developer of Cyberjaya, to formalise the investment.
“Vantage has been expanding our footprint in Malaysia since we entered the dynamic Asia-Pacific market,” said Giles Proctor, chief operating officer of Vantage’s APAC business.
“Our positive experience in Cyberjaya has encouraged us to take further steps to advance the city’s digital infrastructure by building our largest hyperscale campus in the region,” he said.
Vantage is also expanding its KUL1 campus with a fourth 16MW facility that is currently under development.
Combined, both campuses will deliver a total of 287MW of IT capacity to meet the demands of hyperscalers, cloud providers and large enterprises.
Cyberview acting managing director Hafiz Ibrahim said the agreement with Vantage sets the stage for Cyberjaya as an ideal location for hyperscale data centre providers.
“Currently, 90% of co-location providers in Malaysia are based in Cyberjaya, leveraging our world-class infrastructure with dark fibre connectivity,” he said. - FMT
