Yes, Perak govt reps met me, claims state PAS chief

Razman Zakaria (left) said Perak menteri besar Saarani Mohamad should not be so sure about the support from state government assemblymen.

BAGAN SERAI: Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria has claimed that a few state assemblymen from the unity government had met him recently when speculation of a move to topple the state government started spreading.

He told Utusan Malaysia that the assemblymen concerned had come to see him personally but declined to say if moves to change the government were discussed.

“Of course, I cannot give details (of the meeting)”, he said.

The state opposition leader, who declined to state the number of representatives or their names, said he would welcome them if they really wanted to support Perikatan Nasional (PN) to change the government.

“There is no evidence of any move to topple the government. It’s like someone planning to steal, we will not know if it’s going to happen or not.

“I don’t know who is planning this or whether it’s true. If it is, we welcome the move,” he told the Malay daily.

However, Razman said he believed there could be such a move based on the few assemblymen coming to meet him.

Recently, Perak menteri besar Saarani Mohamad gave an assurance that the unity government in the state is stable although they have been speculations that it will fall in July.

He said the rumours had no basis as government assemblymen have not shown any sign that they intend to give up their seats.

Responding to this, Razman, who is also state PN deputy chairman, said Saarani should not be too certain about the assemblymen’s support as elected representatives can have a change of heart which happens often in Malaysian politics.

“Yes, they may have taken an oath of allegiance but they cannot be expected to hold on to the promise. If Saarani is so sure about their support, we hope the government will last a full term, but we feel it may not,” he said.

The Perak legislative assembly is one of seven states that have passed an amendment to their respective state constitution to enable the anti-party hopping law to be enforced. - FMT
