BAYAN LEPAS: Kedah Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Mahfuz Omar admitted to being surprised when he was accused of riding on the popularity of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
Referring to the statement issued by Sanusi, Mahfuz described the Jeneri state assemblyman's behavior as funny and not unlike the internationally famous comedy character, Mr Bean, played by actor Rowan Atkinson.
"I was also surprised. When will I surpass his popularity? But I admit he is very popular like 'Mr Bean'.
"Mr Bean is very popular with his jokes, so he (Sanusi) can sing, so he is very popular and funny like Mr Bean," he said when met at the Rahmah Aidilfitri Open House organised by Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) in Teluk Kumbar, today.
Mahfuz said this in response to Sanusi's claim that the former Pokok Sena member of parliament was trying to gain popularity through a defamation suit against him.
Yesterday, Sanusi claimed to have handed over money to his lawyer last week to pay the defamation suit against Mahfuz.
Earlier, the media reported that the Kedah Menteri Besar was asked to immediately settle a defamation suit amounting to RM120,000 with additional costs or a bankruptcy notice would be filed against him.
Mahfuz, in the meantime, said he or his lawyer has so far not received any payment following the defamation suit case from Sanusi.
"If he wants to give to the lawyer or give it directly to me from the beginning, he can.
"But until now, I have not received any money and neither has my lawyer." he said. - NST
