PORT DICKSON: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu today reiterated that he will not be contesting in the state election in Negri Sembilan.
Faizal, who is Negri Sembilan Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, said this following speculations that he is expected to be fielded in one of the 36 seats in the state.
"I am here to tell everyone that I am not a candidate but I will return to contest in Tambun (parliamentary constituency in Perak) to wrest back the seat.
"For now, my focus is to help PN win Negri Sembilan but not as a candidate," he said during the launching of Port Dickson PN election machinery here today.
He said that PN could create an upset by winning the state election, following its tour in the 36 constituencies.
Faizal cited an unnamed survey which suggested that a major change would take place since the people do not want to vote for Barisan Nasional after they were allegedly cheated in the recent 15th General Election (GE15).
"There is a change in the voter behavior of all races where people from the Malay, Chinese and Indian communities offered support when launching the state PN machinery last week," he said,
He also said that PN will not be fooled by the purported scrambling for Lenggeng assembly seat between BN and Parti Amanah Negara (PAN).
"We do not see the issue as an opportunity, but we foresee it as something that could happen between them and we will work as usual to approach the voters.
"PN machinery will always leave the door open for opposing supporters, especially the frustrated Umno folks, we welcome them to join and support us," he added.
He also hopes that PN members will not sabotage the party if they are not selected as the candidate, and request them to accept the decision by working as a team for the election. - NST
