Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has revealed that Kelantan only contributed 1.8 percent to the nation's economy.
Speaking at the Jelajah Perpaduan Madani rally in Machang, Kelantan yesterday, Zahid blamed 33 years of PAS rule for this.
"Kelantanese have to work in other states because there are no jobs here," he said, according to Sinar Harian.
Checks on the Statistics Malaysia Department's OpenDosm website revealed that in 2021 GDP by state dataset - the latest for this category - Kelantan's contribution to the national gross domestic product for that year was at 1.9 percent.
Kelantan's contribution was the second lowest in the country, while Perlis (0.4 percent) was the lowest.
Zahid said BN and Pakatan Harapan will not promise the heavens, but instead, aspire to develop the state.
"Our sympathies to the people of Kelantan, for PAS has failed to administer the state for 33 years," he said.
