Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin regarded a protest against its purported candidate for Batang Kali state seat in Selangor as "normal" for a political party.
"This is normal. There are some who like (certain candidates), while some others don't," he told reporters after a PN event in Tanjong Karang last night.
Hamzah was asked to comment over pushback by Bersatu grassroots members in Hulu Selangor last week, who were upset after the coalition allegedly sidelined their division chief Md Anuar Mohd Nor from the Batang Kali contest.
Based on photos that have been circulating on Facebook, the dissatisfied members had burned and stepped on PN flags to show their protest.
They claimed that PN had chosen another member of the Hulu Selangor division leadership committee, who is allegedly aligned with Selangor PN chief Azmin Ali, instead of Anuar.
According to a Facebook post, the local Bersatu grassroots has also launched a movement to boycott the candidate and vowed to make sure PN loses in the election.
Meanwhile, Hamzah told reporters last night that PN will announce its candidates for the Selangor state polls this Wednesday.
The announcement will be made during an event held in Taman Medan, Petaling Jaya at 8pm. - Mkini
