Deputy minister admits high cost of living burdening rakyat

Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Fuziah Salleh has admitted the increased cost of living is burdening the rakyat.

Fuziah, however, pledged that her ministry is doing all it can to help the people face the predicament.

"I don't deny the challenges in regard to the price of things today. I admit that a lot of people are burdened by it.

"That is why I'm doing all I can within the ministry's powers and jurisdiction. I hope netizens will understand," she said in a statement on Facebook.

Yesterday, Fuziah decried a "politically motivated concerted attack" against her after a video of her shopping for household groceries went viral, drawing criticism from netizens.

In the video, she was seen buying items such as biscuits, instant noodles, sardines, flour, and cooking oil within a RM200 budget.

The video was actually shot in July when the Community Communications Department (J-Kom) had to modify a controversial infographic regarding the cost of living, following online backlash.

Fuziah's aide Aidil Haryman Mat Nor yesterday lodged a report regarding the matter at the Kuantan police headquarters.

In her Facebook post, Fuziah again questioned the motive for the old video being circulated.

"What is the motive of some wanting to instigate netizens' anger, by taking an old video made in a different context, and then spinning it to change the narrative?

"That's the reason I have lodged a police report, because (the issue) is politically motivated to attack me," she wrote. - Mkini
