PH man slams PAS’s double standards after rules breach at Kelantan festivals

Raja Bahrin Shah said PAS should not label other parties the enemies of Islam or lacking in faith, when they themselves are incapable of applying Islamic law.

PETALING JAYA: Terengganu Pakatan Harapan chairman Raja Bahrin Shah has criticised PAS for failing to ensure compliance by states under its administration with regulations which it claims adhere to Islamic principles.

This comes after regulations set by the PAS-led Kelantan state government were reportedly breached during the “Jom Heboh” and “Rioh Sokmo” carnivals in the state recently.

Both events permitted male and female members of the audience to be seated together in dimly lit surroundings, in a manner said to be forbidden under regulations applicable in the state.

“If such an incident were to occur in a state not governed by PAS, it is likely that PAS would criticise the state government for being too liberal, lacking in faith, and allowing for immoral behaviour to take place,” said Raja Bahrin.

“Therefore, PAS should not label other parties enemies of Islam or lacking in faith, especially when PAS itself is incapable of implementing its own laws. It also does not wholeheartedly apply the Islamic laws it accuses others of failing to adhere to.”

Raja Bahrin, who is also Terengganu Amanah chief, added that there were inconsistencies in the PAS government’s approach when it comes to enforcement.

“If PAS struggles to enforce simple rules such as separate seating and lighting controls in entertainment settings, how about hudud rules and laws, including the RUU355 bill, which have more complex and serious punishments?

“PAS supporters have been fooled (by the party) over various Islamic regulations that seem to be mere empty political promises that even PAS is unable to  implement,” Raja Bahrin said. - FMT
