PETALING JAYA: The Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) and the SOAS University of London, Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Centre (SADRC) yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on several fronts, including training and research.
The two centres will also promote best practices in alternative dispute resolution techniques, including arbitration, under the agreement.
The MoU will also see the two institutions promote Islamic arbitration, sports arbitration, mediation, adjudication, and domain name dispute resolution as alternative dispute resolution methods.
The MoU, which was signed in London, will also see the AIAC and SADRC develop teaching and research in alternative dispute resolution in line with international best practice.
Law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said, who witnessed the MoU signing, said Putrajaya and the UK have a long shared history of collaborating to tackle mutual challenges.
“The signing of the MoU between the AIAC and SADRC underscores the depth of our relationship and our commitment to advancing global best practices in arbitration,” she said.
AIAC director Sundra Rajoo described the MoU between the two institutions as a “remarkable and significant achievement”.
“We firmly believe that through this innovative partnership, we can enhance our joint efforts to promote best practices in alternative dispute resolution, benefiting not only the UK and Malaysia but also the broader Asian and African region,” he said.
SOAS and SADRC director Emilia Onyema hoped that through the MoU, the two centres can promote alternative dispute resolution techniques in Asia, the Middle East and Africa, as well as learn from shared experiences. - FMT
