Police have summoned Gombak Setia assemblyperson Hilman Idham over the planned Perikatan Nasional rally against the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) granted to Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Hilman (above), who is seen as a close aide of former Selangor menteri besar Azmin Ali, said it was a hypocritical move for the coalition government to try and intimidate rally organisers.
"Police have summoned me to give evidence under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code in relation to the Save Malaysia Rally set for Sept 16 in Kuala Lumpur.
"I would like to emphasise that this action is an act of intimidation to scare the people who want to push for Zahid’s re-prosecution.
"Obviously, this government deserves to be called the 'reformati government' because it is hypocritical towards their idealism and principles of struggle," he said in a statement today.
"I will appear at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters at 11am tomorrow to give a statement and call on all young people and Malaysians to come together in Kuala Lumpur to save our beloved Malaysia," he added.
PN Youth is organising the Saturday rally in front of Sogo in the city centre to protest Zahid's DNAA of his 47 criminal charges.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said yesterday that any party planning to hold a rally in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 16 must submit an application for a permit beforehand as well as get permission from premises owners.
He warned that stern action will be taken if the Peaceful Assembly Act is not complied with.-Mkini
