Ex-Ampang PKR Youth chief denies abusing domestic helper

Former Ampang PKR Youth chief Adam Rosly Abdullah has denied allegations that he abused a domestic helper under his employ.

This was in response to a Malaysiakini article this morning, detailing the alleged physical abuse she suffered which included being forced to strip before being scalded with hot water.

In his statement, issued at 8.25pm, Adam said the allegations were slanderous.

"She falsely accused me of harming her cruelly, and treating her terribly during her time working for me.

"This is a cruel, unusual and unreasonable accusation and I’m confident that there are those who are purposely playing up this issue to bring down my dignity, my family and my future," he said.

A similar statement attributed to Adam was circulated earlier this afternoon but he told Malaysiakini he did not issue the statement, and was still seeking legal advice before commenting on record.

The domestic worker said she had worked for Adam for four years and had suffered various forms of abuse.

The incident in which she was scalded with hot water was allegedly punishment for leaving the front gate open.

She also claimed that Adam had thrown a flower pot on her hand, which left a permanent injury.

The domestic worker had lodged a police report over the alleged abuse in mid-August, and is now being sheltered by the Indonesian consulate.

Police have confirmed receiving the police report and have questioned Adam.

Adam said he and his family had given a statement to the authorities and furnished CCTV footage to clear their name.

"We have cooperated well and included evidence that we looked after the former domestic worker's health, proving we always treat our domestic helpers well," he said. - Mkini
