Former Bukit Pasir PAS assemblyperson Najib Lep has joined Amanah.
His membership form was submitted to Amanah president Mohamad Sabu in a ceremony in Muar, Johor last night.
Najib, 60, is a military veteran elected as the Bukit Pasir assemblyperson in the 2018 state election.
He won the seat with 55.3 percent of the vote share in a straight fight against BN. Pakatan Harapan was not part of the contest because its candidate was disqualified.
During the 2022 Johor legislative assembly election, Najib was not fielded by PAS.
He stood as an independent in a five-way contest and lost while failing to keep his deposit.
Before the November 2022 parliamentary elections, Najib joined Umno.
Mohamad told reporters that Amanah welcomed Najib because of his ability to contribute.
"We hope he can share his ideas on our campaign," said Mohamad.
Bukit Pasir is one of two state constituencies that form the Pagoh parliamentary constituency. It is adjacent to the Simpang Jeram constituency where a by-election campaign is taking place.
Mohamad said more notable figures will join Pakatan Harapan component parties and announcements will be made in due course. - Mkini
