Kelantan Menteri Besar Mohd Nassuruddin Daud has initiated legal action against Umno's Galas assemblyperson Mohd Shahbuddin Hashim for accusing him of declaring others as 'kafir'.
According to the PAS leader, his lawyers have served a letter of demand to Shahbuddin and will do the same to two others, including Amanah's Kota Lama assemblyperson Dr Hafidzah Mustakim and Kelantan Umno chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub.
"They sued me, but I will counter-sue them because, in their statement, they said that I was committing 'fikrah takfiri'.
"I don't know if they know that 'fikrah takfiri' means declaring others as kafir. When did I do that? I have never declared anyone kafir," the menteri besar told the media after attending the swearing-in of Kelantan assemblypersons in Kota Bharu today.
Nassuruddin (above), who is also Meranti assemblyperson, stressed that no Muslim is allowed to declare others as kafir.
"I've been teaching religion since I was 21. I've taught in suraus and mosques, and never have I declared others kafir.
"This is because I know the consequences of doing so. If someone calls others kafir, the accusation comes back at the accuser," he added.
Yesterday, it was reported that Hafidzah had taken follow-up action against Nassuruddin for labelling her and Syahbuddin as opposing the Islamic struggle.
The duo gave Nassuruddin a seven-day ultimatum to issue a public apology over the allegation, failing which they would initiate legal action.
Nassuruddin has denied calling the duo the enemies of Islam.
Nassuruddin reportedly said in a lecture following the state polls that PAS' victories in the elections were a victory for Islam.
He also claimed the two Kelantan seats the Pakatan Harapan-BN pact won are now being held by those "against the Islamic struggle". - Mkini
