Khairy: If you're going 'kitchen sink', free Najib too

If BN wants to release people to help curb the insurgence of Perikatan Nasional, it should be jailed former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, said former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

In the latest episode of his Keluar Sekejap podcast, Khairy opined that Najib’s release would bring more value than BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the Pakatan Harapan-BN coalition.

Zahid was granted a discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) in his Yayasan Akalbudi corruption case after the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) decided to withdraw all 47 charges.

“Compare ‘Bossku’ (Najib) to Zahid, he would bring more value in curbing the ‘green wave’. What can that guy (Zahid) do? He has no value.

“If you’re going to kitchen-sink, kitchen-sink the whole damn thing and let Najib out - he will bring more value to you. You’ve already ended the innocence of Malaysia. Grant amnesty,” Khairy (above) said.

In earlier episodes of Keluar Sekajap, he suggested granting amnesty to Najib to aid Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in his battle against PN.

Granting amnesty would mean absolving Najib of all the crimes linked to his tenure as prime minister.

Khairy’s co-host Shahril Hamdan concurred, saying Najib’s release is not impossible in the realm of ‘realpolitik’.

“Surely Bossku supporters will say, ‘Finally Zahid you are free, but what about Bossku?’

“I don’t think that question can be held off for long. How much time before it causes tensions in Umno until Zahid caves in (to their demands)?” he questioned.

Shahril, who is Umno’s former information chief is on a six-year suspension from his party, while Khairy was sacked.

‘You guys sold out’

The pair agreed that while they predicted Zahid would be released from his court cases, it still came as a shock to them.

Shahril opined that the federal administration, led by Harapan chairperson Anwar, had sold out to Zahid’s demands in order to form the government.

However, by Harapan allegedly caving in to these demands, he said they lost their credibility from the ‘Reformasi’ movement.

“PKR, Keadilan, Harapan. You were supposed to be the ones that kept us honest. But you guys sold out.

“Who else is going to fight (for) the reformation of institutions? Nobody will believe a single word you say when you talk about governance. So where does Malaysia go from this?” he questioned.

Shahril said while he and Khairy attempted to reform Umno from within, they were measured against the reformists within Harapan as the “more highground”.

“We used to be a nation of hope. We are not a nation of hope or ideals anymore, we are a nation of compromises,” he added. - Mkini
