Mat Sabu hopes PH-BN’s ‘arranged marriage’ will last

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said he hopes the unity government will prevail ‘for a long time’.

PULAI : Amanah president Mohamad Sabu hopes the “marriage” between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional will last as it is showing great progress.

“We (PH-BN) did not fall in love, we were matched by the Malay rulers, but after getting to know each other, it is going great.

“I guess that is the blessing you get from a marriage that is well arranged,” Mohamad, who is better known as Mat Sabu, said at a ceramah in Pulai last night.

Often, he said, after spending thousands of ringgit for a wedding reception, “two years later, they will get divorced”.

“So we hope this unity government will last a long time.”

Mohamad said the BN-PH alliance underwent its first “test” at the Tioman state seat election in Pahang, in December last year, which it won.

He said PH had made way for BN in the election after it was postponed following the death of Perikatan Nasional candidate Yunus Ramli in the early hours of the 15th general election (GE15) on Nov 19.

He gave an assurance that after the by-elections in Pulai and Simpang Jeram on Saturday, Amanah will help BN win the Pelangai state seat in Pahang.

“We will help to ensure the ‘green wave’ does not land in Pahang as it is a progressive state, just like the other states held by the unity government,” he said.

The by-elections for the Pulai parliamentary seat and Simpang Jeram state seat were triggered by the death of Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub in July.

In the Pulai by-election, PH’s Suhaizan Kaiat faces Zulkifli Jaafar of Perikatan Nasional and independent candidate Samsudin Fauzi.

The Pelangai by-election, to be held on Oct 7, follows the death of the assemblyman, Johari Harun, in the plane crash near Bandar Elmina in Shah Alam on Aug 17. - FMT
