Not true, Hamzah dismisses claims PN had mishandled 12MP

PARLIAMENT | Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin today questioned if the half-term review of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) was to change the direction of the plan entirely.

The Larut MP said claims that the previous administration, which Perikatan Nasional was part of, had mishandled the plan were untrue.

“In the first two years of the plan from 2021 until 2022, the country recorded an average GDP increase of 5.9 percent yearly.

“Whereas 90 percent out of 195 targets had followed (the plan’s) schedule and of which 31 percent had achieved its target.

“Based on the facts, this proves that the country’s economy was placed in right governance in the previous administration,” he said during his debate on the 12MP half-term review.

Hamzah (above) also attributed the country’s 8.7 percent GDP growth in 2022 to the success of the PN administration.

“This is the data during PN’s administration, hence no one can deny PN’s ability and success in running a country and the economy,” he said.

PM Anwar Ibrahim and Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli with the 12MP review report

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim previously said that the achievement of 8.7 percent growth for 2022 was due to a strong economic performance in the fourth quarter of 2022 which, among other things, saw the recovery of private spending and investment, a decrease in unemployment and the strengthening of the ringgit.

The 12MP is a five-year development plan introduced in former premier Ismail Sabri Yaakob's administration and encompassed part of the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 (SPV2030) introduced in the previous Pakatan Harapan administration led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions) Armizan Mohd Ali previously said that the SPV 2030 was no longer the main reference base in drafting the national development’s direction.

Meanwhile, Hamzah also claimed that replacing the 12MP would only burden civil servants who have to implement the plan. - Mkini
