KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has pledged that the government's machinery will be mobilised to thoroughly review each letter submitted to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah by the people of Sabah and Sarawak during the recently concluded Kembara Kenali Borneo tour.

During a meeting with the Agong on Thursday, the prime minister conveyed His Majesty's profound appreciation for the warmth and affection shown by the people towards the royal couple.

"As the prime minister, I felt a certain weightiness associated with the journey, as the King handed over all the letters the people had submitted (while displaying a stack of letters to the audience).

"(And) I would like to assure everyone that insyaAllah, I will instruct all the (government) machinery to look into each letter and resolve the people's issue," he said in a speech during the national-level Malaysia Day celebration held at the Unity Stadium in Kuching, which aired on RTM.

"Anything that is a bit left behind and difficult (to be solved), I will pass it to Hajiji (Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor) and Abang Johari (Sarawak Premier Tans Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg)," he said in jest.

In a post on Thursday, Istana Negara said that the King had read every letter and petition submitted to him by Sabahans and Sarawakians throughout the tour.

The post said the King would hand over each letter and petition to the prime minister.

The inaugural Kembara Kenali Borneo tour commenced in Tawau, Sabah, on Sept 3 and concluded in Telok Melano, Sematan, Sarawak on Wednesday (Sept 13), involving a 2,154-km journey along the Pan Borneo Highway, connecting Sabah, Sarawak, and Brunei. - NST
