Police to grill 25 over PN's Sept 16 rally

Police will be questioning 25 demonstrators who took part in Perikatan Nasional's rally on Sept 16.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said police will begin by questioning five individuals on Monday, and one other on Tuesday.

"The others will be called later,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

Ayob (above) added that the demonstration did not comply with the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) for lack of notice, and also for being held at a mosque - a prohibited place for rallies under the law.

He also said police were also investigating organisers over the presence of children at the rally - which is also prohibited under PAA.

The PN rally on Saturday was in protest against the government over a decision by prosecutors to withdraw corruption charges against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The group first gathered at the Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru in the heart of Kuala Lumpur for prayers.

The group were then led by PN activists Badrul Hisham Shaharin, popularly known as Chegubard, and Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz on a March to the Sogo shopping complex, where speeches were delivered.

Besides Badrul Hisham and Tun Faisal, others spotted at the rally include Taman Medan assemblyperson Dr Afif Bahardin.

The crowd was initially estimated to be around 500, but grew to more than 1,000 by the end.

The original protest leaders, PN Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shari and Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal were not seen among those in attendance. - Mkini
