Police will propose to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) for PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to be charged under the Sedition Act and the Communications and Multimedia Act.
This is over his speech, in which the politician allegedly questioned the authority of the Pardons Board.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay revealed this in a press conference this afternoon.
He said police have recorded Hadi's statement regarding the case this morning and expect to wrap up their probe soon.
"Our job as police is to complete the investigation and the investigation paper.
"We will forward the investigation paper to the AGC with a suggestion to charge (Hadi) under Section 4 of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the CMA," he said.
Ayob was responding to whether Hadi would be charged over the speech.
Hadi is being probed over a speech he made in Johor on Aug 26.
In his speech, the PAS leader reportedly said the process of granting pardons in Malaysia goes against Islamic teachings, where the family of victims has the right to pardon - and not the Pardon’s Board.
According to Ayob, Hadi's statement was recorded by police at PAS headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur, at 11.30am today.
Investigators had asked the Marang MP a total of 24 questions, he said, to which Hadi only answered five.
"The other 19 questions, Hadi said, he will answer in court," Ayob told reporters.
The deputy inspector-general said police have recorded a total of seven statements related to the case so far, and expect to take several more before wrapping up their investigation.
Meanwhile, Ayob was also asked about Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin's “decree”, where he declared that it was “haram” to vote for Pakatan Harapan’s Pulai candidate Suhaizan Kaiat.
To this, he said police will investigate the remark if there is a report lodged with the authority.
Ayob also warned politicians against touching on 3Rs (race, religion and royalty), saying that police will not tolerate such acts.
Stay away from 3R
"Only mufti can issue fatwas. Whoever makes any statement that touches on the 3Rs and there is a police report, we will summon them.
"It doesn't matter who, whether he is Hadi, Muhyiddin or whoever, we have issued advice and warnings before (against touching on 3Rs).
"Do not think that because you are a politician, because you have some status, you can simply issue statements on 3Rs. Police will not tolerate this," he said.
Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, during a ceramah in Kempas on Friday night, had urged voters to not give a single vote to Suhaizan.
"I will make an edict, (it is) ‘haram’," he said. - Mkini
