PETALING JAYA: Residents of the established Bangsar Park neighbourhood of Kuala Lumpur have called for a long-term solution to water supply problems after suffering six days of water cuts.

Bangsar Park Residents Association president Nitesh Malani said the water cuts had been taxing on senior citizens.

The neighbourhood, developed in the 1970s, is one of the older middle-class housing estates in the capital.

Malani said he was told at a meeting with Air Selangor that the Bangsar area contained 54km of water pipes, with only 14km replaced until today.

“In an area like Bangsar, this will take forever to finish,” he said.

“We have asked for an in depth solution, not pipes bursting every now and then. Our water supply is back today, but we don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow,” he said.

Malani said that possible reasons for the frequent water cuts could be the ageing water infrastructure, insufficient investment, lapses in regular maintenance, overdevelopment, and poor local planning.

He said Air Selangor had promised better communications with residents and “as few disruptions as possible”. - FMT
