Indian drug lord: 'Dato Malik' denies ties, lodges report

Malik Group of Companies CEO Abdul Malik Dasthigeer denied any links between him and an alleged Indian drug kingpin Jaffer Sadiq.

This followed an expose by a senior Indian investigative journalist that the kingpin in Tamil Nadu has a Malaysian boss.

“The accusations levelled against me that I’m his boss are false. I have never met or even spoken to Jaffer,” Malik said on Instagram today.

Two days ago, journalist A Shankar made the allegation following Jaffer’s arrest by India’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), adding that the supposed Malaysian boss was also a film distributor.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said local police have no information regarding this issue but will reach out to their Indian counterparts for details.

“However, the Federal Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) will get more details from the Indian security liaison officer regarding the allegation.

“As for now, NCID does not have any bilateral ties with India’s NCB and communication is done through the Interpol and the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA),” he was reported as saying.

In a response, Malik, who is popularly known “Dato Malik”, said he had lodged a police report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters and sent a copy to the Indian High Commission.

“I have also instructed my lawyers to take action against media outlets and individuals who shared fake news that tarnished my reputation,” he added.

On July 26 last year, the MACC arrested Malik under the MACC Act 2009, the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorist Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (Amlatfpuaa) 2001, Income Tax Act 1967, and Customs Act 1967.

Also detained in the operation was a businessperson-cum-politician closely linked to Bersatu. - Mkini
