Nearly 97% of labour disputes resolved since May 2021, says Sim

Human resources minister Steven Sim said 33,093 complaints have been settled, while fewer than 1,000 are under review or being confirmed or verified.

PETALING JAYA: The human resources ministry has resolved nearly 97% of the 34,156 labour disputes it has received since May 2021, says its minister, Steven Sim.

Sim said that as of Feb 24, the ministry had resolved 33,093 complaints, while 687 are under review, 280 are being verified, and 96 have yet to be confirmed.

In a written Dewan Rakyat reply, he said a significant portion of the disputes revolved around unpaid salaries, which made up 6,393 cases.

Other complaints included companies not allowing employees to work from home (3,095), unlawful wage deductions (2,895), lack of overtime and severance benefits (2,298), and dismissal without notice (2,768).

Sim said there were also cases of employers not paying their workers the minimum wage (2,424) and not employing them under contracts (1,577).

He was responding to M Saravanan (BN-Tapah), who inquired about the status of the Working for Workers application, a platform that allows workers to directly report their issues and complaints to agencies associated with the ministry. - FMT
