PKR sec-gen hints at more 'high-profile' entries into party

More high-profile individuals comprising current or former leaders are expected to leave opposition parties and join PKR, according to party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

However, Saifuddin in an interview with the Malay daily Utusan Malaysia said PKR did not resort to elements such as coercion or threats, as the party believes in the value of individual choices.

“I can confirm there are still those who have come to see and contacted us (PKR), either at my level or the president (Anwar Ibrahim), expressing their intention (to join).

“If there is news here and there about Bersatu members or others joining PKR, I view that as an ordinary matter because we receive them all the time,” he said.

Saifuddin added that an agenda to discuss new membership applications will be tabled at each monthly PKR central leadership committee meeting.

Commenting further, Saifuddin reportedly said PKR has also set several conditions for entry of high-profile individuals.

Yesterday, former Bersatu supreme council member Muhammad Faiz Na’aman said he believes more of the party’s leaders and pioneer members at all levels will be joining PKR.

Aside from Faiz, recent entries from Bersatu to PKR include former Dengkil assemblyperson Adhif Syan Abdullah. - Mkini
