Mind your own business, PKR man tells PBM’s Larry Sng

PETALING JAYA
Sarawak PKR information chief Abun Sui Anyit has hit out at Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president Larry Sng for urging Sarawak PKR members to join Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), telling him to focus on his own party instead of interfering with others.

“Sng should focus on his party. He already jumped ship from our party, so there’s no need for him to talk about PKR anymore. Just focus on your own party,” Abun Sui said to FMT.

He was responding to Sng’s recent remarks suggesting Sarawak PKR had no future in the state and should consider aligning with GPS, particularly as PKR president and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim needs GPS’s support at the federal level.

Abun Sui said Sng’s statement was baseless and irrelevant, and that Sarawak PKR today was different from the opposition-era PKR of the past.

“Some of the leaders who led Sarawak PKR eventually left the party and later sought positions in the government.

“Some were even appointed to key positions in government-linked companies,” he said, in an apparent reference to Sng’s own political journey.

Abun Sui also defended Anwar’s approach of engaging with GPS leaders, arguing that as the prime minister, Anwar had a responsibility to maintain good relations with state governments, regardless of political affiliations.

“It is appropriate for the PKR president, who is also the prime minister, to praise state government leaders. Yesterday, he even welcomed the Kelantan menteri besar to his office, despite Kelantan being led by the opposition at the federal level.

“That is what a great and professional leader like Anwar does. Where respect is earned, it is given. That is the proper way for a federal government leader to treat state leaders,” he said.

Abun Sui also rejected suggestions that Sarawak PKR should refrain from contesting in the next state elections.

“If PKR is seen as weak, then there is no need for anyone to be afraid of us contesting. Why tell Sarawak PKR not to contest at all?

“Let the people of Sarawak decide in the next state elections. They deserve to choose leaders who are fair, transparent and have integrity.

“Pakatan Harapan’s presence in Sarawak ensures checks and balances in the state, and it is not impossible that Sarawakians may even give PH the mandate to take over the state government,” he said.

Yesterday, Sarawak PKR announced it had decided to contest in the next state elections, which must be held by April 2027.

GPS currently commands 80 seats in the 82-seat legislative assembly, with DAP holding the remaining two.

Sarawak PKR contested in 28 seats during the 2021 state elections but failed to win even a single seat, with 22 of its candidates losing their deposits. The party had won three seats in the 2016 state elections. - FMT
