Cops probe Facebook user for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad

 

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said police have referred the case to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission for removal of the Facebook post.

PETALING JAYA: 

Following 13 police reports filed nationwide as of last night, police are investigating a Facebook post by a user under the name “Ainon Mohd” allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad and linking him to nepotism and cronyism.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said police have identified the account owner as a 75-year-old woman.

“The investigation is ongoing. Our initial action will be to summon the Facebook account owner, Ainon Mohd.

“We have recorded statements from the complainants to complete the preliminary investigation,” Berita Harian quoted him as saying.

Razarudin said the case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code for uttering words with intent to wound religious feelings, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.

He said police have referred the case to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission for removal of the Facebook post.

“Once again, I emphasise that the police will not compromise on any 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues,” he said. - FMT
