Were you detained?: PAS man doubts PM, Terengganu MB surveilled the same

A PAS member today said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s comments on the “Travel Control Office/Order” (TCO) do not tally with Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar’s experience.

Central PAS information committee research and policy department director Nurul Islam Mohamed Yusoff asked if Anwar had experienced being detained at an immigration counter while officers called the TCO office for clearance.

“If not, it means it’s not the same,” Nurul Islam said in a Facebook post.

He asked Anwar to explain why this was Samsuri’s (above) experience, as Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s clarification was unacceptable.

Earlier, Anwar said all high-ranking officials in the country, including himself, are under surveillance.

He was responding to Samsuri, who said he was flagged under the TCO - a domestic security designation for individuals purportedly deemed a “risk” or “threat”.

Samsuri argued that this gave the impression he is a dangerous criminal, linked to syndicates and gangsters, or someone regarded as a persona non grata in his own country.

He said the label restricted his travel outside the peninsula, even to Sabah and Sarawak, with border authorities needing additional clearance before releasing him.

He also alleged that the restrictions have been in place since the last quarter of 2024.

In response, Saifuddin downplayed the Kemaman MP’s concerns, saying as the head of the state government, Samsuri is accorded a security detail at all times and additional surveillance would not be necessary. - Mkini
