The policemen allegedly went to the homes of refugees and introduced themselves before taking cash and jewellery in separate incidents.

State police chief Adzli Abu Shah said in the most recent incident on July 1, a man in a police uniform and jacket rode a motorcycle to a house in Alor Setar, Berita Harian reported.
Upon arriving at the house, the suspect ordered the complainant to hand over his United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) card and that of his wife and three children.
Adzli said the suspect confiscated the refugee’s phone to prevent him from recording the incident.
He said the suspect then ordered the refugee’s wife to hand over her gold earrings, which the policeman put in his pocket. “After handing back the phone and UNHCR cards, he left on his motorcycle.”
The refugee then lodged a police report, leading to the arrest of the 26-year-old suspect attached to the Kedah police contingent the following day.
“The suspect does not have a criminal record. We have confiscated his police authority card, two phones, a pair of gold earrings, a Honda motorcycle and several other items for our investigation.
“The case is being probed for robbery, which is punishable by up to 14 years in prison and whipping if convicted,” he added.
Adzli said the other incident occurred on June 27 at a house in a residential area, predominantly populated by Rohingya folk.
A person had introduced himself as a policeman and entered the home to conduct “checks” before taking RM1,750 in cash and leaving the place.
“The suspect is a policeman who was arrested the same day,” he added, without disclosing further details of the case. - FMT
