In another sign of the uneasy alliance between Umno and Pakatan Harapan, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh celebrated DAP’s decision to leave the Malacca government, saying the people’s prayers had been answered.
“Alhamdulillah, the prayers of the people of Malacca have been answered,” he wrote on Facebook.
True to form, Akmal also took a swipe at the DAP deputy chairperson, asking: “Nga Kor Ming, when will it be your turn?”
The Umno Youth chief was referring to Nga’s earlier pledge to resign as housing and local government minister if BN secured a major victory in Johor and former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak was released from prison.
Nga later clarified that his pledge was tied specifically to Najib’s possible release, stressing that the integrity of the country’s judicial system must be protected.

Malacca DAP is scheduled to announce its withdrawal from the state government this afternoon, with its leaders expected to relinquish their positions in the BN-led administration.
The move is in protest against a proposed constitutional amendment to introduce appointed members of the state legislative assembly.
It marks the latest flashpoint between DAP and Umno in Malacca, where the two parties have clashed over several issues despite being partners in the coalition government.
Points of contention
In December 2025, Malacca DAP objected to any event that encouraged or tolerated activities it deemed to be illegal.
Malacca DAP chairperson Khoo Poay Tiong had questioned the organisation of the RXZ Members Ride 3.0 programme, claiming it had significantly disrupted residents’ daily routines, public order and road safety.
His remarks drew criticism from several Umno leaders, including Akmal, who accused DAP of remaining silent on the issue of drunk drivers.

DAP’s decision to open a branch in the Malay-majority area of Kampung Padang Temu last May also triggered unease among Kota Melaka Umno leaders.
Kota Melaka Umno chief Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman criticised the move, viewing it as part of a narrative that DAP was attempting to champion Malay issues.
Earlier this year, Akmal had also challenged Malacca DAP to withdraw from the state government during a special Umno convention that debated whether the party should remain in or leave the federal government.
