N Sembilan polls: PAS to finalise seat allocation; Kota Tinggi Bersatu Youth leader quits party

Negeri Sembilan polls

  • PAS is expected to finalise the allocation of seats it will contest in the Negeri Sembilan state election through the party’s central committee meeting at the PAS headquarters tonight.

PAS' deputy election director Annuar Musa said the meeting, which will start at 8.30pm, will be chaired by party president Abdul Hadi Awang and attended by committee members.

Utusan Malaysia reported him as saying that the meeting involved only the PAS leadership and did not involve Perikatan Nasional.

  • BN is scheduled to announce its candidates for the Negeri Sembilan state election tonight.

The announcement will take place at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi.

The Election Commission has set July 18 as nomination day, while early voting will be held on July 28 and polling day on Aug 1.

Politics

  • Afif Iqbal Hairunishak has resigned as Kota Tinggi Bersatu Youth information chief and announced his departure from the party.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Afif said the decision came after careful consideration, describing it as a difficult choice made by God’s will.

The announcement follows a string of defections from Bersatu, with Negeri Sembilan opposition leader and Gemas assemblyperson Ridzuan Ahmad announcing his departure on July 11.

Land issues

  • Seputeh MP Teresa Kok has welcomed the Land and Mines Department's decision to cancel the lease of the former SK Danau Perdana land site in Taman Desa to a private company.

However, Kok said the incident exposed serious weaknesses in federal land management, arguing that land reserved for educational purposes should not have been leased for commercial purposes.

The DAP lawmaker urged the government to implement the Public Accounts Committee’s recommendation to establish a standing committee involving Kuala Lumpur MPs to oversee land alienation and development matters in the area.

Such a committee would ensure elected representatives familiar with local community needs are consulted before key decisions are made, helping prevent similar incidents, she added.

Judicial appointments

  • Seventeen individuals, including prominent prosecutors and lawyers, were appointed as judicial commissioners today.

Among notable names were Ku Hayati Ku Haron, who led the prosecution of Zayn Rayyan’s parents in 2024 and lawyer Ariff Azami Hussein, who represented singer and songwriter Yasin Sulaiman in his drug-related case.

Apart from these two, prosecutor Tengku Amir Zaki Tengku Abdul Rahman, who led the prosecution of Sam Ke Ting in the infamous “basikal lajak” case, was also appointed today.

The others appointed are Norhayati Ahmad, Zaman Noor, Elesabet Paya Wan, Azhar Othman, Helina Sulaiman, Suraiya Mustafa Kamal, Nor Azizah Mohamad, Tan Swee Cheng, Chang Keng Hoe, Marianne Antoinette Ghani, Azliana Wan Adnan, Mohamad Nor Azam, Rashid Zainol Rashid, Kalwant Singh, and T Kumar. - Mkini
