Shah Alam hospital: Another sub-con axed, more delays loom

The construction of the problems-plagued RM482 million Shah Alam hospital is expected to be further delayed after the sub-contractor GM Healthcare Sdn Bhd (GMH) was terminated.

AccordNONEing to a copy of the notice of termination obtained by Malaysiakini, main contractor Sunshine Fleet Sdn Bhd terminated GMH due to its failure to perform its duties as scheduled despite repeated warnings.

“For your information, we have received two reminders and a warning from the (Public) Works Department over severe delays in the completion of work by your company,” read the notice, which was served and took effect today.

The noticeazlan was signed by Sunshine Fleet chief executive officer Tengku Putri Arafiah Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz, who is also the younger sister of the Selangor Sultan.

This morning, GMH staff were ordered to leave the construction site, purportedly with the help from the police.

According to GMH chief executive officer Elvin Toh, insufficient time was accorded to his staff to remove their affects.

“GMH has informed all its sub-contractors and personnel to leave (the site) peacefully and avoid all violence and confrontation,” said Toh in a text message.

GMH is the second sub-contractor for the RM482 million project to be terminated since Isyoda (M) Sdn Bhd in May 21, 2009.

So far, less than 30 percent of construction work has been completed.

The project was orginally scheduled to be completed in November this year, but the Works Ministry has extended this to next June.
