Student leader in 'Najib flag' incident threatened

The student who lowered a flag of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak during Saturday's academic freedom protest at the Umno headquarters in the PWTC building in Kuala Lumpur claims to have received several threats against him.

The latest was when an unidentified male attempted to attack Legassi Mahasiswa Progesif (LMF) coordinator Adam Adil outside Bukit Aman police headquarters, after trying to lodge a police report over the threats.

When contacted, Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia (SMM) chief Ahmad Syukri Abdul Razab said the incident happened when a group of six student leaders were leaving the police headquarters at 2.30pm, as police reports could only be made at regular police stations.

“He then tried to attack Adam but we pushed him back and tried to calm the situation... we were shocked that he dared to do it in front of the media,” he said.

Ahmad Syukri added that the student leaders suspect the unidentified man to be related to the police officers as the officers had earlier called him by name.

“I'm not sure of his name but it proves that the police knew him,” he said.

One of the threats sent via SMS reads: “Adam, hell is waiting for you!”

The student leaders then moved on to Tun H.S. Lee police station at about 3pm to lodge a report.
Aside from the threats, the police report also included the scuffle that occurred outside Bukit Aman police headquarters.

Adam had during the protest lowered the flag with Najib's portrait and replaced it with an academic freedom flag.

Umno Youth, Puteri and ministers have condemned the action as immature and disrespectful and have demanded that the students should apologise.

However, SMM, a key mover of the protest has refused to apologise, stressing that it was a legitimate protest action.
