'Magnanimous' Wee forgives alleged 'attacker'

No police report will be lodged against the person who has been accused of shoving his fist into the face of Deputy Education Minister Wee Ka Siong at a rally in Kajang yesterday.

Wee told reporters at the Parliament lobby today that he has "forgiven" the person who tried to punch him.

"I've chosen to forgive them... I was prepared for the worst. It took guts to go and listen to their voices, that's all," he said.

Wee was responding to demands from Pakatan Rakyat MPs that helodges a police report on the alleged attack.

NONEPakatan claimed that several news reports cited Wee as saying that the person who punched him was an opposition supporter, while others reported that the person was a DAP member.

However, DAP's Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai categorically denied the allegation and said it was a "presumptuous" claim.
Wee's unexpected visit to the rally, organised by Chinese education group Dong Zong to protest the shortage of Chinese-educated teachers for Chinese schools, caused a commotion.

A scuffle reportedly broke out between a middle-aged man and Wee's police escort, when the man tried to approach Wee upon his arrival at the New Era College in Kajang.

"I've already said yesterday... I don't want to politicise it. If I wanted to politicise it I could have had another round of police reports and press conferences. I don't even want to talk abut it," Wee said.

"I think enough is enough. Say what you like (but) be a gentleman. Something happened and I've chosen to forgive them, that's all. I see that it (he) had just touched my face, nothing happened," he said.

Earlier today, Tan said if Wee lodged a police report, the authorities could investigate and verify the incident.

Pokok Sena PAS MP Mahfuz Omar said although Pakatan leaders have no faith that police would investigate complaints lodged by them, it was still incumbent on them to report such matters as a move to curb violence.

NONE"I wonder, since Wee doesn't want to lodge a report, is it because he too doesn't have faith in the police?" asked Mahfuz.

Similarly, Nurul Izzah Anwar (PKR-Lembah Pantai) advised Wee to report the matter so as to condemn any act of violence and provocation.

However, Wee reiterated that he did not sustain any serious injury from the incident.
Asked to verify accusation that he conjured up the incident to gain public sympathy, Wee said:

"People will know the truth... you can see for yourself. Why not just say that I hired people to throw things (at me) and I asked people to charge at me? That would be a more creative plot.

"I didn't ask people to take the so-called photos, so how can I know which angle the photos were shot from?
"I was walking (to the field)... the situation was chaotic and I don't know who were at the left and right. I was pulled forward and I just followed, so how can I know?"

Asked about claims made in the the Internet that the alleged attacker had just pointed a finger at him, Wee replied sarcastically: "Why not make it more juicier, by saying that he likes me and he only wanted to touch me gently on my face... is this what you mean?"
