The Barisan Nasional government will fully counter the recently announced opposition pact’s manifesto which it sees as a political gimmick to please the people, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said today.
He said the government would explain to the people that the opposition manifesto was something that could not be fulfilled.
“We realise that it (manifesto) cannot be looked at individually but in totality. Soon, we will make a full counter to the manifesto as there are matters where accurate figures are not given,” the prime minister told reporters in Pekan today.
He was asked to comment on the opposition manifesto which is seen by many quarters as unrealistic.
“For example, they want to reduce electricity and water tariffs and oil price, abolish tolls and give free educaion if they come into power, and at the end of their five-year term see that the average household income reaches RM4,000.
“But they don’t state how they are going to do this, the allocations and the funds to be taken out in order to achieve all this. If the oil price is reduced, it’s not stated by how much.
“So, we see there’s a political gimmick here, only nice for people to hear. When they go to the ground and see a crowd, they will touch on issues they think the crowd like to listen to, and say different things at another location.
“We will counter it (opposition manifesto). There are promises in it that cannot and not possible to be fulfilled because if they try to do that, the country’s economy could collapse,” he said.
Najib said the BN government would also announce its manifesto soon.
“Our manifesto will not be guided by their manifesto as in fact, we will be countering it.
“Our manifesto is what we will be doing in the next five years and what have been done in the last four years, so that the people will realise that when we promise something, we are confident of fulfilling it,” he said.

Rural transformation centre launched
Earlier, Najib officially opened the Pahang Rural Transformation Centre (RTC) which was attended by over 15,000 people including Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob.
On the RTC, Najib said the centre enabled residents in the area to obtain various services from the government agencies in comfort while it would also spur socio-economic development in Kuala Pahang and the surrounding areas.
“Here, too, is the Kedai Kain 1Malaysia where the prices (of the fabrics) are unbelievably low, hence increasing the purchasing of the local community,” he said.
Najib said this RTC was also to be turned into a recreational centre with cafes and a shop selling Roti 1Malaysia by Fama, and would be a focal point for Universiti Malaysia Pahang students, hence making Kuala Pahang a lively place.
He was also impressed that the RM3.5 million RTC was ready within two weeks.
“It has a big impact due to the speed it was done with minimal cost. That’s why we regard it as a public facility that meets the National Blue Ocean philosophy.
“I hope it will bring closer together the producers, consumers and markets.
“We cannot increase the income of farmers, livestock breeders and fishermen if we don’t bring them close to the markets and if possible, the products be purchased in huge volumes, hence profiting both parties.
“This will also help control inflation with consumers obtaining goods at lower prices,” he said.
