12 escape unhurt as part of mosque roof collapses
Twelve people escaped unhurt when the roof at the front portion of a mosque in Kampung Binjai Kertas in Kuala Berang, Terengganu collapsed last night.
The section of the roof, measuring 9 metres by 9 metres, collapsed at 8.50pm after all those present had completed their ‘Isyak’ prayers, said mosque committee member Abd Wahab Sulong, 67, who was leaving the mosque at that time.
“I was shocked by the loud noise and turned back to see that the roof had collapsed. Fortunately, no one was below that part of the roof,” he told Bernama at the scene.
He said 11 other people were inside the mosque and rushed out upon hearing the noise.
Abd Wahab said the mosque had been in operation since 2008.
The Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department is conducting an investigation on the incident, said its liaison officer, Rozizah Abni Hajar.
