CEILING COLLAPSES at Serdang hospital's ICU for babies: 3 nurses & a doctor INJURED

CEILING COLLAPSES at Serdang hospital's ICU for babies: 3 nurses & a doctor INJURED
Several ceiling slabs at the Serdang Hospital collapsed today, the fourth of such incidents in three years.
This time, the incident occured at the Intensive Care Unit for newborn babies, Harian Metro reported, but no injuries were reported.
Hospital director Dr Ardi Awang was quoted saying that the incident happened at 1.30am and involve an area between eight to 10 feet wide.
On Sept 30, the maternity ward ceiling collapsed, prompting urgings for Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam to resign if the ceiling caves in again.
The first collapse happened on Jan 30, 2011, at the main lobby, but no one was hurt.
Three nurses and a medical officer were injured when the ceiling came down at the Emergency Department on Aug 13, 2012.
According to former Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching, then health minister Liow Tiong Lai had informed her that the ministry had allocated RM800,000 to replace a 250 square-feet wide area of the ceiling following the first collapse.
She said it was found that parts of the ceiling were “loose and dangerous”, prompting the Works Ministry to investigate the matter.
The Serdang Hospital opened its doors in December 2005 and has 620 beds.
