Wisma Putra: If Siti Aishah has unknowingly lost her citizenship, it will be REINSTATED
PUTRAJAYA - The Malaysian High Commission has yet to have access to the Malaysian woman, identified as Aishah Wahab by British authorities, who has been held captive in London for 30 years, Wisma Putra said in a statement on Thursday.
However, it would seek to determine her legal status and if she had "unknowingly lost her Malaysian citizenship and became stateless at some point in the past 30 years under dire circumstances" it would work with other authorities to reinstate her citizenship.
"Further consular assistance will then be provided to the victim and her family," the statement said.
The British authorities on Thursday officially confirmed the woman was a Malaysian named Aishah Wahab born on May 27, 1944, the statement said, adding that the High Commission would fully cooperate with British authorities to facilitate the ongoing probe.
"As the case remains under investigation, access to further information is limited and restricted by the Data Protection Act 1998 under the local laws of the United Kingdom. No direct access to the victim has been authorised so far," the statement said. - The Nation
