JPJ: Give us time to sort out MySikap

The Road Transport Department has asked the public to be patient until it fully implements its new computer system.
PETALING JAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has asked the public to be more patient with their newly implemented computer system – ‘MySikap’ – as their staff are not well versed and competent with the new system as yet.
FMT yesterday reported that the public were experiencing long delays at the Department’s counters due to the new system.  JPJ customers had complained that they had to wait for several hours just to get their driving licenses and road tax renewed.
A JPJ spokesperson, contacted by FMT, said the Department’s staff were undergoing a learning process and the public should give them some time without putting pressure on them.
“Give us some time to learn and we promise to give prompt service.” she said.
She stressed that the new system is much better and actually a more convenient method for the public as the system allows users to handle their required transaction anywhere and anytime.
“The public will get used to the new system. It requires some time.
“JPJ is always concerned about the public’s needs and this system is for the public’s betterment, she said,.
She however, rubbished claims that the system was unstable and very slow.
“There is no problem with the system but our staff are not hands on with system yet. Just give them a little more time to master the system,” she said.
‘Go back to Sikap’
Meanwhile, the Federation of Motor & Credit Companies president Tony Khor Chong Boon condemned the new system as it makes life difficult for used car owners as well as dealers.
He said since the implementation of the ‘MySikap’ computerization system, starting November, this year, the conventional ‘Sikap’ system was abandoned.
“Many dealers are puzzled over the abrupt change or transformation of method or system. Giving the dealers insufficient time to get themselves prepared for the new system. To make things worse many JPJ officers are not well versed with ‘MySikap’.
“FCCM strongly suggests that JPJ maintain the ‘Sikap’ and run the new system simultaneously until majority of dealers are familiar with the new system,” he added.
He said the association welcomes new technologies and moving from the conventional way to hi-tech was a ‘great transformation’.
“It will definitely help boost the economic growth of the industry. Nevertheless, it has to be well planned. We urge JPJ to reconsider our appeal,” he said.
