If the majority of the Chinese had voted for BN in the Sungai Limau by-election, is MCA to believe they are the biggest winner while Umno is the biggest loser, questioned DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.
MCA leaders had told the Chinese media that BN had secured 892 out of 1,185 Chinese votes cast in the by-election, an increase from 160 out of 1,600 during the recent 13th general election (GE13), stated Lim in a press statement today.
Meanwhile, despite an expenditure of over RM15 million, BN candidate Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim managed to get 10,985 votes in the by election, an increase of 465 from 10,520 votes BN had received in GE13.
“If MCA leaders are to be believed, BN had an additional 732 Chinese votes... this could mean BN had lost at least 267 Malay votes...
“BN’s votes in the by-election would have fallen from 10,520 to 10,253 without the increase of 732 Chinese votes,” said Lim.
PAS’ Mohd Azam Samat had beaten BN’s Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim in the Sungai Limau by-election on Monday by a majority of 1,084 votes, a decrease from the 2,774 majority in GE13.
“I leave it to Umno and BN leaders to decide whether to accept MCA’s analysis of the voting trends in the Sungai Limau by-election...
Gerakan National Youth chief Tan Keng Liang had claimed that the Chinese community “rejected” Pakatan Rakyat in this by-election.
“The Sungai Limau by-election had been a major test for PAS and Pakatan Rakyat and Umno and BN six months after GE13...”
“Pakatan Rakyat had come out of the test with a significant victory considering the money politics, mountain of lies and falsehoods... to hold both Malay and Chinese voters to ransom,” said Lim.
“PAS and Pakatan Rakyat must cherish the victory... learn from the electoral weaknesses in the by-election so that PAS and Pakatan Rakyat will be stronger and more formidable,” he added.
