PM: If you want to start a revolution...

Go forth and start a revolution, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak told the youth in Malaysia.

But before anyone had the time to raise their eyebrows, the PM was quick to add that this revolution should not be in the veins of the "Arab Spring".

"I hope this social business summit will plant the seeds of quiet revolution, but not equivalent the Arab Spring," he said to titters at the Global Social Business Summit in Kuala Lumpur.

"I hope many others will join hands... Together we can change the world," he said, while speaking off the cuff.

Najib had earlier this year told the BBC that there is no basis for an Arab Spring-style demonstration in Malaysia as the people enjoy economic progress.

Ironically, the Najib's administration's clampdown to the July 9, 2011 Bersih protest for clean and fair elections was likened to the despot regime ousted in the Arab Spring.

Najib had also said the objective of the Bersih rally on Apr 28, 2012 was to turn Dataran Merdeka into Egypt's Tahrir Square to oust the government.

RM20m for social enterprises

Speaking at the annual summit which gathers social entrepreneurs from around the world, he said that the Malaysian government is supporting social business through a special fund.

"As finance minister, I have set aside RM20 million to that fund. You can apply to Magic later, provided that (your projects) meet the objective of changing the lives of as many people for the better," he said to exclamations from the room.

According to the Budget speech, Magic, a one-stop centre for entrepreneurs will be allocated RM50 million.

Meanwhile, the organisers announced that the next Global Business Summit will be held in Mexico City next year in line with the Latin American country's focus on entrepreneurship.

According to organisers, the country has established of the National Institute of Entrepreneurship, which has a budget of USD700 million.

The Global Social Business Summit was founded in 2009 as an initiative of Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus and creative advisor Hans Ritz.

At the summit Yunus, who was awarded the Tun Razak prize 20 years ago was lauded Najib as a "friend of social business".
