Acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein has suggested that the Genting Group takes over public transport up and down the private road leading to the resort following the horrific stage bus crash that killed 37 people on Aug 21.
“I will be meeting Genting today on the matter,” Hishammuddin told a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.
“It (the road up to Genting) is a private road. Even though the companies (operating the buses) are called Genting, they have nothing to do with Genting Berhad,” he said.
Hishamuddin also said the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) would suspend the bus company that ran the stage bus which crashed in August.
"SPAD has indicated that it will do so. We are looking for alternative companies (to operate buses)," Hishamuddin said.
He said that inflicting personal liability would be "difficult" because the driver of the bus was dead.
However, the government has asked the Attorney-General's Chambers to see if it can "impute liability" on individuals from the bus company, Hishammuddin added.
In another incident on Monday, a passenger was seriously injured when a tour bus on the way to Genting, with 22 passengers, skidded into a drain at Km3, Batang Kali-Genting road.
