KUALA LUMPUR — Yet another ceiling collapse has hit Serdang Hospital, making it the seventh such incident at the seven-year-old facility.
This time, portions of the ceiling of the staff quarters at the hospital’s D Block fell to the ground at 1pm yesterday, nearly hitting the wife and four children of an employee.
According to a report by Malay language daily Utusan Malaysia, the latest incident has forced the families residing in the affected quarters to move out temporarily. Some were transferred to nearby staff housing while others needed to rent premises outside.
This is the second such incident at the hospital this month, with its emergency ward suffering the same on December 4, the second at the location after an earlier ceiling collapse that injured four people in August.
Before that, there were collapses at an intensive care unit in November and the maternity ward in September.
The two remaining incidents occurred in the main lobby, once in January 30, 2011 and another exactly a year later.
Despite the repeated collapses and injuries at the hospital built at a cost of RM690 million, no party has been held responsible. - Malay Mail
