KJ gives president's KPI plan thumbs up

UMNO ASSEMBLY Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has welcomed party president Najib Abdul Razak's move to implement the Key Performance Index for Umno state chapters.

He said this proposal is important to ensure that all states have their targets in achieving their aims.

"If there is a culture for us to re-evaluate ourselves then our performance will be better especially in the running up to the general election. The party machinery will be better organised by having the KPI," he told reporters at the sidelines of the Umno general assembly.

NONEIn his speech, Najib said by having the KPI, the party will be well prepared for the election and to wrest back the seats it lost.

"In applying this, I want all branch, division and state Umno to be monitored, audited and rectified. With this, we can take immediate corrective measures," he had added.

Other points that Najib outlined as Umno's tasks included improving the economy of the bumiputera, uplifting Islam, improving party membership and also having a transformation machinery with the use of IT and social media.

Meanwhile, Khairy also hopes that Umno Youth will be given the responsibility to help increase membership as it is in the process of forming a Cadet Academy for new members.

"We hope that we will be given the task," he said.

Asked to comment on the constituency not being divided equally, the Umno Youth chief dismissed this, saying it is done through a transparent process.

"This has been explained and it is clear that Umno has obtained the popular votes compared to the individual opposition parties," he said.

Khairy also commented on the video screening earlier at the AGM regarding opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s claim of foreigners voting.

The Umno Youth leader said while Anwar denied stating that Bangladeshis were brought in, Khairy said the video showed otherwise.

"It is clear he said 'Bangla' and 'Banglasia' and Anwar has to answer for making false claims," he added.
